TurboTax Online Sign in to your account. Scroll down to Your tax returns & documents and select Amend (change) return, then Amend using TurboTax Online. On the left menu, select Tax Tools followed by Print Center. Select Print, save or preview this year's return. Select which forms you want and then View or print forms.

For Tax Years 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022, complete and sign this Form 1040-X via our online editor, then print and mail your amendment to the IRS.

Use Form 1040X, Amended U.S. Individual Income Tax Return, to file an amended tax return. Be advised – you can't e-file an amended return. A paper form must be mailed in.

You can now file Form 1040-X electronically with tax filing software to amend 2019 or later Forms 1040 and 1040-SR, and 2021 or later Forms 1040-NR. For more details, see our June 2022 news release on this topic. Paper filing is still an option for Form 1040-X.

You can check the status of your Form 1040-X, Amended U.S. Individual Income Tax Return using the Where's My Amended Return? online tool or by calling the toll-free telephone number 866-464-2050 three weeks after you file your amended return.

An amended return can be completed for any tax year, however, if a change to a taxpayer's return requires the IRS to issue a refund, the changes must be made using Form 1040-X within 3 years of the original return's due date, or 2 years from the date the return was paid, whichever is later.

Request a copy of a tax return from the IRS Taxpayers can request a copy of a tax return by completing and mailing Form 4506 to the IRS address listed on the form. There's a $43 fee for each copy and these are available for the current tax year and up to seven years prior.
