Like FFA, 4-H is a premiere youth development organization that gives young people a chance to learn about agriculture. It aims to prepare students for the future by emphasizing “head, heart, hands and health”—the 4 Hs.

Showing livestock is a massive part of FFA. Students who otherwise may not have the opportunity to house, feed and care for an animal can have that experience within FFA. Students are taught discipline, responsibility, and a sense of accomplishment while caring for their animals.

4-H members should be courteous and clean and possess good manners. 3. Language must be controlled and appropriate for a 4-H member — I will not use language that is socially offensive. and/or staff responsible for the event/activity.

FFA (the Future Farmers of America) is a formal education program sponsored by local schools. 4-H is an after school program sponsored by the Extension Service. In some areas, the two programs work together, but in other areas they compete to recruit young people and for resources for competitions like county fairs.

The Gold Star Award is the highest achievement award given by the Texas 4-H Youth Development Program through the county 4-H Program. The Texas 4-H Gold Star Award can only be awarded once in a member's 4-H career.

Texas 4-H is like a club for kids and teens ages 5-18, and it's BIG! It's the largest youth development program in Texas with more than 550,000 youth each year.

1969: FFA membership becomes available to female students. 1988: Official Name change from Future Farmers of America to National FFA Organization.
