Military retired pay stops upon death of the retiree! The Survivor Benefit Plan (SBP) allows a retiree to ensure, after death, a continuous lifetime annuity for their dependents. The annuity which is based on a percentage of retired pay is called SBP and is paid to an eligible beneficiary.

Step 1 - Notify the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) Casualty Care Team at 1-800-321-1080. Please have the retiree's Social Security Number and the date of death when you call.

OWCP Death Benefits - If there are no dependent children, the surviving spouse's monthly compensation is 50% of the employees pay. If there are dependent children, the surviving spouse will receive 45% of the employee's pay and each dependent child is entitled to 15%.

Current year 1099R are uploaded by February 1st of each year and are available through DA Self-Service. If you cannot access Direct Access (DA) Self Service please email your request to ppc-dg-customercare@uscg.mil.

The Survivor Benefit Plan is a Department of Defense sponsored and subsidized program that provides up to 55 percent of a service member's retired pay to an eligible beneficiary upon the death of the member.
