If a military member wishes to make Florida their state of residence they must obtain a Florida drivers' license. Our office can assist you with obtaining your license. Florida has some specific document requirements in order to be issued a driver license.

Home of Record is a military administrative term used to determine specific military entitlements (e.g., calculation of transportation costs when you get out of the Army). It is typically the state where a person joined the military, and can only be changed if it was done incorrectly at the time of enlistment.

You should complete DD Form 2058 and file it with the finance office in order for your LES and W-2 to reflect your new domicile.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR CERTIFICATION OF STATE OF LEGAL RESIDENCE The terms "legal residence" and "domicile" are essentially interchangeable. In brief, they are used to denote that place where you have your permanent home and to which, whenever you are absent, you have the intention of returning.

The DD Form 2058, State of Legal Residence Certificate, can be found in the Finance Office and is used by the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) to indicate that you have changed your domicile for military pay purposes.

Changing the state on your paycheck records Does Not Change your SLR.To change the SLR, a DD Form 2058 must be submitted to your local finance officer and accepted. From a tax standpoint, your State of Legal Residency (SLR) is considered your “domicile” or “resident” state as long as you are on active duty.
