Most eligible customers receive their first payment within three weeks from the day TDI receives the application. Missing or wrong information may delay payment. Benefits are paid by direct deposit or electronic payment card.

To qualify medically for TDI payments, you must also be unable to perform your regular work duties. Note that you don't have to be unable to do any type of work, just your customary work. You must be unable to work for at least seven days, called your waiting period.

Exemptions from TDI Only: Minors 14 or 15 years of age are exempt from the provisions of the TDI regulations. No deductions should be made from their salary for TDI. They are covered for Unemployment Insurance. State and local government employees (unless their employers elect to have them covered).

To be eligible for TDI/TCI benefits, you must have earned wages in Rhode Island and paid into the TDI/TCI fund. For claims filed effective 1/1/23 or later, you must have been paid at least $15,600 in the Base Period for the claim.

Filing a Claim By accessing the TDI/TCI website at .dlt.ri.gov/tdi, claimants may apply online or download an application to complete and mail to TDI, P.O. Box 20100, Cranston, RI 02920. They may also call (401) 462-8420 after 4pm ET and choose option 1. An application will be mailed to them.
