To apply for an initial or renewal tax exemption card, eligible missions and their members should submit an application on the Department's E-Government (E-Gov) system. Applications are generally processed within five business days.

The RI Division of Taxation may exempt your entity from paying sales tax on purchases if your entity is one of the following types of organizations: Non-profit hospitals. Accredited educational institutions. Orphanages. Non-profit interest-free loan associations. Non-profit organized sporting leagues.

The sales tax is imposed upon the retailer at the rate of 7% of the gross receipts from taxable sales. In addition to the sales tax, there is also a 6% hotel tax on the rental of rooms in hotels, motels or lodging houses.
