Advantages: Reduces the amount of writing needed, organized, easy memorization of facts, easy study of comparisons and relationships, reduces time on editing and reviewing before tests, good overview. Disadvantages: Must be able to sort out the categories for it to work.

The biggest advantage of the sentence method is that the meaning of a statement written down as a sentence – and not just a collection of words – is often clearer and easier to decipher. This has obvious consequences with regard to the ease of absorbing and consolidating information.

To take notes with the outline method, follow these six steps: Gather note-taking materials. Outline the main topics. Outline the subtopics. Insert supporting thoughts and facts. Add further details and examples. Review and recite your notes.
