Get San Gorgonio Permit Availability

Day-use wilderness permits are required if hiking into either State or Federal Wilderness area. They are free and available at the Idyllwild Ranger Station (State Park) as well as the San Jacinto Ranger District Office (National Forest), both located in the town of Idyllwild.

Permits can be reserved 90 days in advance by calling 909-382-2921 (leave a message if a ranger is not available).

A wilderness permit is required year-round for backpacking, overnight climbing, or any other overnight stay in the Yosemite Wilderness. A wilderness permit is not required for day hikes (unless hiking to Half Dome) or for staying in lodging facilities and frontcountry campgrounds.

You can't be a day-hiker if you have an overnight pack. Anytime you're backpacking in the area with overnight gear, you need an overnight permit and a bear canister. You might claim to be a day hiker, but you'll still get a ticket.

The SGW is in Zone D14. You can hunt anywhere in the wilderness, but you have to be aware of the proximity to populated areas before you shoot.
