ULC Standards (ULC)

A Plumbing Permit is required to perform all plumbing work in your home, on your farm or in your place of business. This includes new plumbing installations, alterations to an existing plumbing system or the addition of fixtures. A Plumbing Permit ensures that you are hiring someone who is trained to do the work.

Completion of secondary school is usually required. Completion of a four- to five-year apprenticeship program or a combination of over five years of work experience in the trade and some high school, college or industry courses in plumbing is usually required to be eligible for trade certification.

Apply for a plumbing permit together with the appropriate building permit type: As part of a New House Permit application for a new single detached, semi-detached, row house or garden suite. New home plumbing work must be completed by a licensed mechanical contractor.

An Electrical permit is required to perform all Electrical installation work in your home or farm. Licensed Electrical Contractors are responsible for purchasing permits when hired to do any electrical work.
