Law enforcement agencies enforce laws regarding their manufacture, import, sale, possession and use. Alcohol-related laws are enforced by State and local law enforcement agencies.

The ABC Board controls alcoholic beverages through distribution, licensing and enforcement.

Requirements such as: 1) a $10,000 alcohol tax bond, 2) certificate of occupancy, 3) Responsible Vendor training, 4) public hearing, 5) background check, and 6) appointment with the ABC Board in Huntsville, etc., must be completed before the licensing can be completed.

The legal drinking age in Alabama for consumption of an alcoholic beverage is 21. Purchasing, possessing or consuming alcohol prior to your 21st birthday is a first-degree misdemeanor.

Alabama alcohol laws require adults to be at least 19 to be alcohol servers. They must be at least 21 to be bartenders. In both cases, there must be superviser. But the law doesn't state an age for the supervisor.

The Alabama liquor license process typically takes between 30 and 120 days, but if there are issues that come up throughout the process, it can go up to 175 days or longer.
