Arkansas Public Employees Retirement System | APERS.

APERS is a “defined benefit” plan (DB or pension plan), which guarantees eligible retirees a lifetime annuity at a rate based on their average salary and amount of service. This type of retirement plan has been around since 1875 when the first example was introduced by American Express.

The new APERS Member Self-Service Portal (MSS) allows you to take control of your retirement account. You can view your current status, check your service credit, send and receive secure messages, add or change beneficiaries, generate benefit estimates, apply for retirement benefits, and much, much more.

T-DROP is an optional "retirement" plan for ATRS members. Members elect to participate in T-DROP in lieu of retiring and accepting a service retirement benefit. Once you have elected and been approved to participate in T-DROP, the System processes your account as if you have retired.

A. Any active or inactive member who attains age 60 and has five (5) or more years of actual and reciprocal service may voluntarily retire upon written application filed with the System.

Withdrawing Money from the Fund Members frequently ask if they can withdraw from, add to, or borrow against their retirement accounts. The answer to all of these is “no.” The only way you can get money from APERS is to retire or to terminate your covered employment.

With at least 5 years of service credit, you are vested for (or entitled to) a lifetime retirement benefit; and you can begin receiving a benefit when you meet certain age and service requirements.
