The rule of 85 says that workers can retire with full pension benefits if their age and years of service add up to 85 or more. So if you're 60 years old and you've been working at the same company for 25 years then technically, you could be eligible for full pension benefits if you choose to retire early.

At ages 55 to 64, you may qualify to receive unreduced benefits under the “Rule of 85” if your attained age plus your creditable service equals 85 or greater. There is no early retirement reduction of your benefit. Eligible for an unreduced retirement benefit.

Participants in either benefit: Contribute 4.8% pre-tax to the plan. The State contributes 156% of employees' contributions. May retire at age 55 and above. Are vested after three years of plan participation (36 months of contributions).

You will be eligible for a service retirement benefit when you reach age 55 and have five or more years of credited member service.

A classic retirement preparation rule states that you should retire on 80% of the income you earned in your last year of work.

In most cases, the answer is yes, you may still work while receiving a pension—but with a few limitations. Since pensions are considered part of your compensation package, they generally may not be taken away for any reason.

The 85 factor is calculated by adding together your age and years of pensionable service at retirement. If the total equals at least 85 points, you're entitled to an unreduced PSPP pension as early as your 55th birthday.

If you meet the 85 year rule before age 65 and draw your benefits before age 65, any benefits with partial 85 year rule protection will have a smaller reduction applied for early payment to age 65, when compared to someone with a normal reduction for early payment to age 65.
