Under this rule, applicable in all court proceedings, parties are now responsible for protecting the privacy of restricted identifiers (social security numbers or employer identification numbers and financial account numbers) and financial source documents by submitting them with the proper forms.

The judicial branch consists of three levels: a supreme court, a court of appeals, and district courts. Each level of the judicial branch has different roles and responsibilities.

RULE 5. In a subsequent appearance in the same action the out-of-state lawyer may, in the discretion of the court, conduct the proceedings without the presence of Minnesota counsel. The out-of-state lawyer is subject to all rules that apply to lawyers admitted in Minnesota, including rules related to e-filing.

Appeal From District Court. The judgment of the district court on removal from conciliation court in any cause may be appealed to the Court of Appeals as in other civil cases. An appeal may not be taken directly from conciliation court to the Court of Appeals.

You can appeal a Conciliation Court judgment to the District (Trial) Court in the county where your Conciliation Court case was filed. The facts are reviewed “de novo,” which means the case gets a fresh start before the judge assigned to your case. There may be a civil trial and either party can request a jury.

You must file the original, signed notice of appeal and statement of the case (not copies) with the Clerk of the Appellate Courts. You must file all documents relating to your appeal with the Clerk of the Appellate Courts. You cannot file papers by sending them directly to the judges of the court.

Rule 521(b) establishes a 20-day time period for removing the case to district court. The 20 days is measured from the mailing of the notice of judgment, and the law requires that an additional three days be added to the time period when notice is served by mail.
