A farm must have agricultural products grown in the soil. Anything grown above ground in beds or containers is considered other agricultural and not qualifying. It must have the appearance of a farm, not the typical residential garden.

Agricultural equipment used on a farm or ranch for planting, growing and harvesting agricultural products or for raising or breeding livestock for the primary purpose of obtaining a monetary profit is exempt from property taxation.

A parcel of land that was used the previous two years and is presently used as a farm or a ranch, or is being restored through conservation practices. Such land must have been classified or eligible for classification as agricultural land during the 10 years preceding the year of assessment.

3) The parcel of land is at least 80 acres (or less than 80 acres if there are no homes or residential structures) and has been permanently protected by a conservation easement held by a qualified land trust. Also, the land should have been classified as agricultural prior to the placement of the conservation easement.

The qualifying senior must be at least 65 years of age as of January 1 of the year of application. The qualifying senior must occupy the property as his or her primary residence, and be the owner of record and must have done so for at least ten consecutive years prior to January 1 of the tax year.
