Two-star. What it involves: This level is similar to that of BE novice and intermediate. The dressage tests include leg-yielding, rein-back and medium paces. The showjumping is up to 1.15m in height and the cross-country phase has a maximum height of 1.10m.

The Pre-Novice BE Eventing Level Heights at this level are 1.05m in the showjumping and 1.00m in the cross country. The jumps are more complex and there may be corners and other technical fences on the cross country course.

Novice: Jump Height: 2'11". The Novice level is a continuing introduction to horse trials. It is designed for competitors and horses with some experience at lower levels or for experienced riders and horses new to the sport.

International classes are identified by the class code CCI followed by the star level from 1* which is at 105cm level up to 5* which is the highest level for the most advanced horses and riders.

BE Intermediate Novice Intermediate Novice (IN) is designed to bridge the gap between Novice and Intermediate classes with an Intermediate level dressage test, show jumping course (at a maximum height of 120cm) and a Novice level cross country course.

For years, eventing in the United States had six distinct recognized levels: Beginner Novice, Novice, Training, Preliminary, Intermediate, and Advanced. The divide between Training and Preliminary is generally recognized as the step from the lower levels to the upper levels.
