Footnotes are notes placed at the bottom of the page in a piece of academic writing and indicated in the text with superscript numbers (or sometimes letters or other symbols). Insert footnotes and endnotes Click where you want to reference to the footnote or endnote. On the References tab, select Insert Footnote or Insert Endnote.
