You must have a buddy with you (Scout buddy system) at each meeting with the merit badge counselor. Turn in your approved application to your unit leader. You will be awarded the merit badge emblem and certificate at a suitable occasion. Merit badge applications must be signed in advance by the applicant's unit leader.

The blue card system regulates activities that are essential to children's lives. These include childcare, education, sport, cultural activities and foster care. We check and monitor people who work in these industries and help organisations to create safe environments for children.

One look at the requirements, and you'll see why Invention was the least-earned merit badge in the history of the BSA. To earn it, Scouts had to “invent and patent some useful article” and “show a working drawing or model of the same.” Obtaining a patent is a time-consuming, costly endeavor.

Q: Does a Scout need a hard copy of a Blue Card when working on merit badges? No. Since the introduction of Scoutbook, the BSA has offered Scouts two ways of recording merit badge requirement completion: The Blue Card and Scoutbook. Both remain authorized methods to record merit badge work.

WHAT IS A BLUE CARD? The Blue Card is a two-sided, tri-section document, which is formally known as The Application For Merit Badge. It is an official Boy Scouts of America document that serves as a record of progress toward completion of a merit badge.

1) All sections must be legible and completed in ink. 2) Always use first and last name on all sections. 3) The Unit Leader only signs the card ONCE – on the front – prior to starting the badge! 4) Blue Cards are due at the first meeting of the Merit Badge session.
