SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- On Christmas night in 2007, a 350-pound Siberian tiger escaped from her zoo enclosure at the San Francisco Zoo, and then mauled and killed 17-year-old Carlos Sousa, Jr. The tiger, Tatiana, was shot to death by police after the attack.

Shortly after closing time on December 25, 2007, Tatiana escaped from her open-air enclosure, killing 17-year-old Carlos Eduardo Sousa Jr. and injuring brothers Amritpal "Paul" Dhaliwal and Kulbir Dhaliwal (19 and 23 years old, respectively). The three men had been witnessed throwing objects at and taunting the animal.

A federal inspector determined that a tiger named Tatiana was provoked before she leapt out of her enclosure and attacked three young people—killing one—at the San Francisco Zoo in 2007.

A private zookeeper was fatally mauled by a large tiger after trying to pet the big cat during feeding time. Jose de Jesus, a 23-year-old employee at a Mexican zoo, put his right hand through the tiger's cage and waved it during the predator's scheduled meal time, ing to viral footage posted to social media.

In the days immediately following the attack, the director of the zoo stated that Tatiana was probably provoked. He said, "Somebody created a situation that really agitated her and gave her some sort of a method to break out. There is no possible way the cat could have made it out of there in a single leap.

The woman, surnamed Zhao, was seeking 2 million yuan($299,917.52) in compensation from Badaling Wildlife World, the Beijing Times reported on Thursday in what it said was her first interview since the incident on July 23. Zhao said a park official in a nearby vehicle failed to come to the rescue.
