Teachers do not get three months of paid vacation. Our salaries are based on the school year, which is 10 months long. We can elect, as I did, to receive that salary spread out over 12 months in order to help with household budgeting, but we are not paid for the summer months unless we teach summer school.

The CPS regular academic calendar has a maximum of 211 days, a maximum of 193 of which are workdays, 176 of which are student attendance and 16 of which are non-student attendance days. As set forth below, the total number of days varies by employee group.

The majority of CPS staff are paid on a semi-monthly basis.

Teachers and employees employed for less than 52-weeks, including appointed and temporarily assigned teachers, receive up to ten (10) days of paid vacation per year, five during the Winter Recess and five during the Spring Recess as designated in the Academic Calendar.
