A student who does not meet the Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Appeal policy is considered ineligible for financial aid. However, they may submit an appeal if they have a documented extenuating circumstace that prevented them from meeting the SAP policy.

In order to file an appeal, this form must be completed and returned to the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards within five (5) business days of the receipt of the Notice of Findings letter/hearing outcome. The appeal officer or committee has 30 calendar days to determine an outcome.

Examples for appeals include (but are not limited to): death in the immediate family, personal hardship (illness, accident, etc.), personal medical problems, etc. Appeals should be sent to the Scholarship Appeal Committee for consideration at finaid@howard.edu.

Appeal Process. You may appeal a financial aid suspension status by submitting a completed appeal packet to the Office of Financial Aid within 14 calendar days from the date of your notification.

To initiate an appeal you must: Meet with a financial aid advisor. Complete the Satisfactory Academic Progress Appeal form. Submit a typed request for consideration which must clearly state what caused the suspension, provide copies of supporting documentation, and must also clearly indicate what has changed.

Howard University admissions is more selective with an acceptance rate of 35% and an early acceptance rate of 63.5%. Half the applicants admitted to Howard University have an SAT score between 1080 and 1290 or an ACT score of 21 and 26.
