With SMUD's optional Fixed Rate, the price for electricity is set by season. On average, the Fixed Rate is approximately 4% higher than the Time-of-Day (5-8 p.m.) Rate. Note: Customers with rooftop solar systems or who participate in the SolarShares program are not eligible for the Fixed Rate.

You can save on your SMUD bill by reducing your electricity use between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Monday through Friday. Consider doing household chores like laundry or running your dishwasher before 5 p.m. or after 8 p.m. on weekdays to take advantage of the low off-peak rates.

Off-peak hours are all day, every day–except during the peak hours of 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday only. On weekends and holidays, there's no peak price. That means that the majority of the electricity you pay for during this time of year will be at the lowest off-peak price.

Now, homeowners will be able to claim a 30% tax credit on a number of different energy efficiency upgrades, including up to $2,000 for heat pump or heat pump water heater installation, $1,200 for insulation and air sealing materials, and more.

If an electrical panel upgrade is included with future appliance circuits, the customer is eligible for a total rebate of $2,500.
