Indication of satisfactory completion of a course in American Baptist History and Polity at a seminary or with a person approved by the State Advisory Committee on Ordination.

Active deacons will serve on a rotating basis, serving for three-years per term on the Deacon Council. In order to maintain a three-year rotation schedule, the Deacon Council will maintain a minimum of four rotation teams.

The term "pastor", in the majority of Baptist churches, is one of two offices within the church, deacon being the other, and is considered synonymous with "elder" or "bishop" (though in Reformed Baptist churches, elders are a separate office).

Deacons must be at least 35 years old and practicing, baptized members of the Roman Catholic Church. If baptized as an adult, a deacon must have belonged to the church for at least five years prior to being ordained. As mentioned above, deacons must satisfy certain marriage requirements.

In other denominations such as Baptist, Methodist and Calvinist churches (Congregationalist and Presbyterian), the term "minister" usually refers to a member of the ordained clergy who leads a congregation or participates in a role in a parachurch ministry; such a person may serve as an elder (presbyter), pastor, ...

What is an Ordained Deacon? Deacons are clergy leaders who are called by God, authorized by the church and ordained by a bishop to a lifetime ministry of Word, Service, Compassion and Justice (¶329).

Each deacon of the First Baptist Church shall meet the scriptural qualifications from Acts 6:1‐7 and 1 Timothy 3:8 – 13, support the ministries of the church, be a Christian for at least 3 years, be a member for at least one year, and be, at least, 25 years of age.
