KCHA provides rental housing and assistance to more than 55,000 people. This quality, affordable housing supports health and self‑sufficiency.

Meet one of KCHA's housing selection preferences. You must be homeless, live in substandard-condition housing, pay more than 50 percent of your household income on rent and utilities, or have household income at or below 30 percent of AMI for your family size (see chart above).

You must have an annual household income at or below 80 percent of the area median income (AMI). You receive waiting list preference with income at or below 30 percent of AMI.

Compass Housing Alliance provides housing, shelter, and support services to people experiencing homelessness and poverty in the Puget Sound area. Today, they are a leading provider and developer of essential services and affordable housing for men, women, veterans and families who are struggling.

Selection Status. As of Sept. 30, 2022, KCHA has selected the first 1,150 applicants from the 2020 lottery waiting list. We do not expect to select any additional applications until October 2023 or later.

KCHA's subsidized housing serves the people of King County with the most limited incomes. This includes seniors, people with disabilities, single-parent families, and low-income working households. Most residents pay no more than 28 percent of their adjusted monthly income on rent and utilities.
