In Utah, a minor who is 16 years of age or older can ask the juvenile court to declare him or her emancipated. The minor has to show the court that: He or she can live independently from his or her parents or guardian. He or she can manage his or her financial affairs.

Colorado does not have an emancipation statute under which minors may petition a court for legal autonomy which would release them from the control and authority of their parents. No independent cause of action exists in Colorado for the emancipation of minors.
