A model release is needed whenever you take an image of a recognizable person or identifiable feature (such as a tattoo), if you plan to use that image for commercial purposes (such as promoting your business in your portfolio or on social media).

A Model Release Form is like a contract. It specifies all the ways the resulting images can or cannot be used. If you are the photographer, you will want to use the broadest language possible about where and in which media formats the image can be used, so you will have great latitude in selling the photo.

In an ideal case, a photography model release form should be short and sweet. It needs to contain the photographed persons' name, address, phone number, and a witness. However, there are much longer versions used for more important, commissioned work. The shorter versions are more for unplanned photographs.

The essential elements of a model release form Your name and business name. Your business address. A release of all claims against your company. Whether you want to release claims from other companies that buy, use, or obtain the licenses for your photos.

A model release is a written agreement between you and a person depicted in your image. By signing a model release, that person gives you (and other authorized users, like Adobe Stock customers) permission to publish the image or use it for commercial purposes. You can get a model release template from Adobe Stock, but we also accept release forms from other sources as long as they're filled out correctly and are substantially similar to our release form.

A Model Release a short document that is typically signed by the subject of the photograph (or parent/legal guardian if they are a minor) giving the photographer permission to display their photographs and use them in marketing promotions in ance with the terms defined in the release.

Generally, you do not need a model release for photographs you publish on your website portfolio or use in your photography portfolio. There are some exceptions, however.
