Introducing Excel's Three Types of Spreadsheet Databases Simple (or “Gray Cell”) Tables, which I've used since Excel 2.0. Excel Tables, introduced in Excel 2007. PivotTables with a Tabular Report Layout, introduced in Excel 2010.

The General spreadsheet layout affects the data, header, case and variable headers, and info box of spreadsheets. The System spreadsheet layouts include: Active Cell Header, Marked Cells, Print Filter, Printed Marked Cells, Reporting Tables Default, Selected Cells Header, and Selection Conditions.

The four types of data are text, number, logical and error. You may perform different functions with each type, so it's important to know which ones to use and when to use them. You may also consider that some data types may change when exporting data into a spreadsheet.

Text: The Text data type is for adding a short amount of text. Number: The Number data type is for inputting numbers as integers or decimals with specific formatting defined by you. Currency: The Currency data type is for inputting currency values with a specific currency symbol and formatting defined by you.

Text. This is the most basic data type in Microsoft Excel. Text data allows you to input characters such as alphabetical, numerical, and special symbols. However, unlike number data, numerical symbols inputted as text data do not support calculations.

Edit data in a cell Open a spreadsheet in Google Sheets. Click a cell that's empty, or double-click a cell that isn't empty. Start typing. Optional: To add another line within a cell, press ⌘ + Enter on a Mac or Ctrl + Enter on Windows. When you're done, press Enter.

You can position the text within a cell so that it is centered, aligned left or right. If it's a long line of text, you can apply Wrap Text so that all the text is visible. Select the text that you want to align, and on the Home tab, pick the alignment option you want.
