Undergraduate Students A petition is required to request excess units; submit petition at the appropriate College or school advising office.

To change the grading basis on a mandatory-graded class, graduate students use a Graduate Degree Petition. A supporting memorandum from the student's home department chair is required, as well as an e-mail from the class instructor describing the student's participation in the class.

If you need to drop a non-impacted class between Weeks 8-10 of a regular term, you will need to submit a Restricted Late Drop petition to your UCLA College Advising Unit. Please be aware that students are restricted to three (3) restricted late drops during their academic career. You must submit your petition online.

The College Blue Petition is used to request exceptions to academic regulations due to unusual and/or unforeseen circumstances.

Submission. Undergraduate students submit the petition to the academic advising office. Graduate students (retroactive actions only) submit the petition to the graduate department adviser. The College and schools may require separate or additional petition processes.

A maximum of 216 units is permitted for all students, regardless of the number of majors or minors completed. Students with advanced placement (AP) or international baccalaureate credit (IB) may exceed the unit maximum by the amount of that credit. Students wishing to exceed their unit maximum must petition to do so.

Any course in which a grade of C- or below or a No Pass (NP) is earned can be repeated once. If you originally took the course for a letter grade, you MUST take it for a letter grade the second time.

Blue petitions may be obtained online , from your UCLA College advising unit. Please complete the top half of the petition and write your request as clearly, completely, and specifically as possible. Submitting an unintelligible or ambiguous request will likely result in your petition being delayed or denied.
