Understand the difference between credit and non-credit courses. Credit courses are usually taken to work towards a degree program. Non-credit courses are taken for personal or professional interest and do not usually offer college credit.

Credit-bearing means the student will receive college credit for the courses they take for their certificate.

A Non-credit-bearing short course is a type of short learning programme for which no credits are awarded in relation to unit standards or (part) qualifications depending on the purpose and/or assessment of the programme.

For example to gain an undergraduate (Bachelor's) degree you would need to successfully complete 120 credits at level 4, 120 credits at level 5 and 120 credits at Level 6. Credits roughly represent the number of hours of learning that have been or need to be undertaken; 1 credit roughly equals10 hours.

You only need to apply for a Short term study visa in advance if you are a visa national. Check if this applies to you through the UK Government website. If you are not a visa national, you can get the Short term study visa stamp when you arrive in the UK.
