With 1550 CFM air flow this portable dust collector is more effective than many big stationary units. The upper filter bag screens out particles as small as 5 microns - 1/10 the diameter of a human hair. The lower collection bag is translucent so you can see at a glance when it's time to empty.

When collecting dust from table saws, use 6" ducting underneath, 4" to the hood over the blade, and a 6" x 6" x 4" wye with a 4", 45-degree side leg. For bandsaws, use two 4" hoses from a symmetrical 6" x 4" x 4" wye. 8" Duct: To maintain 4000 ft/min, 8" ducting requires at least 1400 CFM in vertical up-flows.

hoses, a 2-hp single-stage collector draws over 350 cfm from each port, plenty for many woodworking machines. The 2-hp two-stage Dust Boy didn't match the power of the 2-hp single-stage Jet machine, although it has other qualities that may be preferable.

For a rectangular port, calculate the area (multiply length times width, in inches). Then, multiply that area times 28 to find the approximate flow in CFM @ 4,000 feet per minute (FPM).
