The weaknesses of Compstat are less recognised: due process considerations, community relations, leadership issues, inadequate problemsolving. Weaknesses pose challenges and the authors present an alternative model to address these weaknesses.

The CompStat definition refers to a collection of computer-generated statistics that focus on crime. Using the Geographic Information System (GIS), CompStat can generate information that allows the police department to identify and develop strategies to combat crime.

Compstat emphasizes information-sharing, responsibility and account- ability, and improving effectiveness.
