A PreK can be at a public school, private school, church, private business, or home. Voluntary Prekindergarten or VPK is a funding program through the State of Florida that covers the cost of a set number of hours of PreK when a child is 4 years old. VPK Funding is available to all families, regardless of income.

Children must live in Florida and be 4 years old on or before Sept. 1 of the current school year to be eligible. If their fourth birthday falls Feb. 2 through Sept. 1 in a calendar year, parents can postpone enrolling their child in VPK that year and wait until the following year when their child is 5.

The base student allocation for 2021-2022 is $2,122 for the VPK Summer program and $2,486 for the VPK School-Year program.

Providers are paid for a full VPK day when a child attends any VPK portion of the day. The state also pays for up to one day's worth of absences for every four days a child attends. VPK providers cannot charge parents for their children's absences from the VPK Program.
