Corrections Officers receive health, dental, vision and life insurance from the state of Michigan. may earn 13 vacation days in the first calendar year, accrued four hours every two weeks of full-time work. Additional vacation time is accrued based on years of service.

Applicants must be a minimum of 18 years of age and have earned a High School Diploma or General Educational Development (G.E.D.) Certificate.

Training consists of attending a corrections officer training academy. Applicants will be paid MDOC employees at the start of the academy. Once individuals successfully complete the 8 weeks of training, they will begin two months of on-the-job training at their assigned facilities.
