Unlike nonprofit fundraising, philanthropy, or really most other parts of our society, the impact of mutual aid isn't judged by size or scale. The focus stays on the relationships and meeting the immediate needs of each individual person.

Mutual Aid Networks are autonomous, self-‐help organizations controlled by their members. If they enter into agreements with other organizations, including governments, or raise capital from external sources, they do so on terms that ensure democratic control by their members and maintain their cooperative autonomy.
