The learner must be registered through a City & Guilds approved Assessment Centre for this qualification prior to assessment. On successful completion of the Animal Transport Assessment the candidate will receive a City & Guilds certificate and photographic skills card.

Your responsibilities as a pet transporter include picking up pets, booking flights, providing paperwork to airlines to ship the animal, securing space in a pet hotel, filling out customs paperwork, checking on pets in quarantine, and delivering the pet to their new home.

You must have a transporter authorisation if you transport animals as part of an economic activity (a business or trade), for a distance over 65km. You will need a: type 1 transporter authorisation for journeys over 65km and up to 8 hours. type 2 transporter authorisation for journeys over 8 hours.

Cats and dogs do not require a permit to enter the U.S., they do not require a rabies vaccination either, as the UK and Ireland are rabies free. You should however, get a health certificate from your veterinary stating that your pet is fit and healthy to travel.
