Get Deposit Waiver

When colleges send you an admission letter, you pay an enrollment deposit to hold your spot. This deposit goes toward your tuition for the first year.

Colleges and universities do check, and they do and will rescind admissions offers if they get wind of double depositing.

A deposit deferral means that you do not need to pay the deposit at the time of accepting the admissions offer.

Double depositing means putting down a deposit, and thus accepting admission, at more than one college. Since a student can't attend multiple colleges, it is considered unethical.

In short, the answer is no, you cannot. When a student or family advises us that they are going to put down deposits with several schools and then worry about deciding later which college or university will be the final choice, we cringe – for many reasons.

A waiver means that the fee is no longer required to complete an application. There's no later point in time when the application fee becomes due. Typically, waivers are granted when the fee presents a financial hardship.

Give admissions staff a reason why you're declining admission to the school after you've already accepted, and be honest about that reason. Admissions staff will be more willing to work with you if you're straightforward with them.

If accepted, you'll be asked to send a nonrefundable enrollment deposit by May 1. It saves your spot in the freshman class and is credited towards your tuition and fees.
