In Addition, There Was A Significant Difference In Educational Achievement Between Boys And Girls. However, No Significant Difference In Self-Esteem Was Found Between Boys And Girls.

The self-worth theory of achievement motivation (Covington 1984a, in press; Covington and Beery 1976) holds that academic achievement is best understood in terms of students attempting to maintain a positive image of their own ability, especially when risking failure.

Positive self-esteem, on the other hand, is one of the building blocks of school success; it provides a firm foundation for learning.

Self-esteem and perceived competence are necessary for students to take risks in their learning and to bounce back after failure or adversity. Low self-esteem or lack of confidence leaves students doubting their ability to succeed, making them hesitant to engage in learning or take appropriate academic growth risks.
