The Peer Review Program is a non-legal, non-punitive process available only to members of the MDS. The program relies on the good faith between both parties to resolve their differences in order to promote the best possible oral health of the patient.

The dental profession's peer review program is a process to resolve disputes between a patient and a dentist or a third party payer and a dentist. Approximately 3,000 cases a year, nationwide, are handled through the peer review system.

ADA journals use a single-blinded review process: authors are blinded to the identities of the editors and reviewers responsible for the independent peer review of their manuscripts, but not vice versa.
