Founded in 1886, the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc. (Convention) is the nation's oldest and largest African American religious convention with an estimated membership of 7.5 million.

It is headquartered at the Baptist World Center in Nashville, Tennessee and affiliated with the Baptist World Alliance.

National Baptist Congress of Christian Education will meet on June 19-23, 2023. The 118th Congress of Christian Education meeting is onsite and online/virtual. As a matter of fact, NBCCE is an auxiliary to the National Baptist Convention USA, Inc. The onsite meeting will be in Louisville, Kentucky.

Today, the State Convention has grown to more than 3,200 churches with approximately one million members.

In 1915, the NBC split into two separate factions, the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc. and the National Baptist Convention of America. The split stemmed from another publishing controversy.

Baptisms in Alabama SBC churches followed the national trend: from 35,000 in 1972-73 to below 25,000 by end of century, to 16,000 in 2015. In 2015, the state's 3,242 SBC churches represented a decline of seven churches from a decade earlier, and church membership had dropped from 1,132,400 in 2005 to 946,714 in 2016.

The Alabama Baptist Association (ABA) was an association of Baptist churches founded on 15 December 1819 by four churches: the Antioch Baptist Church (of Montgomery County, Alabama) and the Baptist churches of Old Elam (also named Elim), Bethel, and Rehoboth.
