Get Guardian Application Honor Flight Northeast Indiana

A long standing rule from the Honor Flight Network is that spouses, unfortunately, cannot be a guardian. There are a variety of reasons including emotional, physical capabilities, etc. The requirement is that a guardian to a Veteran can be any other family member, friend, etc.

You need to pay your cost of the trip. The current cost is $1500 which covers air and land transportation, food, lodging, attraction entrance fees, flight bag, jacket, and t-shirts. Payment is not due until you are assigned to a trip. If you are a family member of a veteran you must be 16 years or older.

Any U.S. Veteran (WWII through Vietnam) who served at least one day of active duty during a “war period” (check FAQs for dates) and has not already visited his/her respective memorial in Washington, D.C. is eligible for a free Honor Flight. Priority will be given to older Veterans.

Guardians play a significant role on every Freedom Honor Flight, ensuring that every veteran has a safe and memorable experience. Duties include, but not limited to, physically assisting the veterans at the airport, during the flight and at the memorials. Guardians must be between 18 and 70 years of age.

Honor Flights are an opportunity to honor and thank the Americans who secured our freedom by bringing them to the nation's capital to see the memorials that commemorate their service.

Southwest Airlines is the official commercial airline of the Honor Flight Network, although the network utilizes many national airlines. The veterans on the Honor Flights are escorted by volunteer guardians, who help them on the flight and around the D.C. area.
