Get Closing The Gap Action Plan

ASCA National Standards for Students was established to help school counselors help students. ASCA National Standards identify and prioritize the specific atti- tudes, knowledge and skills that students should be able to demonstrate as a result of participating in a school counseling program.

The written action plan is designed to provide structured, written feedback to an employee for achieving successful performance. A written action plan should identify each performance problem, the actions necessary to correct the problem(s), and the time frames within which the problem(s) must be corrected.

Academic, behavior and attendance discrepancies, often referred to as gaps, can exist among student groups. Through targeted and intentional interventions, school counselors can play a crucial role in challenging bias and promoting success for all students, thus closing the achievement gap.

The four themes of leadership, advocacy, collaboration and systemic change no longer appear around the edge of the ASCA National Model diamond but instead are woven throughout the ASCA Na- tional Model to show they are integral components of a comprehensive school counseling program.

The ASCA National Model brings school counselors together with one vision and one voice, which creates unity and focus toward improving student achievement and supporting student development.

The ASCA Mindsets & Behaviors are organized in three broad domains: academic, career and social/emotional development. These domains promote mindsets and behaviors that enhance the learning process and create a culture of college and career readiness for all students.

The framework of a comprehensive school counsel- ing program consists of four components: foundation, management, delivery and accountability.

The ASCA School Counselor Preparation Program Standards are a unified set of principles guiding school counselor preparation programs in training effective future school counselors in areas of professional practice and ethical behavior.

The ASCA National Model: A Framework for School Counseling Programs outlines the components of a comprehensive school counseling program. The ASCA National Model brings school counselors to- gether with one vision and one voice, which creates unity and focus toward improving student achieve- ment.

The ASCA Model includes four components, which are the Foundation, the Delivery System, the Management System, and Accountability.
