Generally, you must file Forms 1094-C and 1095-C by February 28 if filing on paper (or March 31 if filing electronically) of the year following the calendar year to which the return relates.

For tax year 2019 and beyond you won't receive Form 1095-C because the IRS won't require proof that you had coverage. But for tax year 2018 the year for which we're preparing our returns now the IRS still wants that proof. Form 1095-C confirms your coverage.

For the 2020 filing year, Applicable Large Employers (ALEs) must provide Forms 1095-C to employees by March 2, 2021. ALEs must submit Forms 1095-C, along with Form 1094-C, to the IRS by February 28, 2021 (if filed by mail) or March 31, 2021 (if filed electronically).

Generally, you must report the tips allocated to you by your employer on your income tax return. Attach Form 4137, Social Security and Medicare Tax on Unreported Tip Income, to Form 1040 or 1040-SR, U.S. Individual Income Tax Return, to report tips allocated by your employer (in Box 8 of Form W-2).

This will be shown on line 61 of your 1040 Individual Tax Return Form. The individual shared responsibility payment is not applicable for tax year 2020. You do not need form 1095-C to complete your taxes. Form 1095-C does not get filed with your tax return.

More In Forms and Instructions Form 1095-C is filed and furnished to any employee of an Applicable Large Employers (ALE) member who is a full-time employee for one or more months of the calendar. ALE members must report that information for all twelve months of the calendar year for each employee.
