Johann Gutenberg's Bible is probably the most famous Bible in the world. It is the earliest full-scale work printed in Europe using moveable type. Printing with moveable type had been developed earlier in East Asia. The earliest type of this kind is documented in Chinese sources in the 11th century.

Due to this, Gutenberg would also be viewed as a proto Protestant.

With an increase in literacy, the more opportunities to own personal religious texts and growth of individual reading, the printing press ultimately undermined the Catholic Church and disrupted the European religious culture by spreading religious knowledge and shifting the power to the people.

The Gutenberg Press: The first printing press was developed by Johan Gutenberg in 1430s. It was a developed form of the olive and wine presses. By 1448 Gutenberg perfected this system. The lead moulds were used for casting the metal types for the letters of alphabet.

Gutenberg – Johannes Gutenberg was a goldsmith and inventor from Germany who is credited with inventing moveable type printing in Europe.

While the Gutenberg Bible was primarily for elite clerical usage, it opened the door to mass and untutored readings and interpretations. The ability to produce hundreds, if not tens of thousands, of copies made the Bible a commercial opportunity and a cultural revolution.

The Guttenberg Bible — the first Bible ever printed — was a Catholic Bible (in fact, the Protestant Reformation had not even happened yet), and the number of books in Catholic Bibles has been the same ever since the Bible was first canonized at the Council of Rome in A.D.

Both the Protestant and Catholic propagandists made use of the printing press as a means of influencing the public. Protestants used the printing press to proliferate revolutionary theological material at a popular level, while the Catholic Church produced large quantities of anti-Reformation texts.
