When an owner requests a Change of Contractor, the owner shall submit a letter to the Building Official of the Building Code Services Division (BCSD), stating the reason for the change being required and stating that the Building Official is held harmless from any legal involvement regarding this request.

The HVHZ, High Velosity Hurricane Zone, designates a geographic area incorporating all of Miami-Dade and Broward Counties and the Coastal Palm Beach County. These designated areas have the potential to have wind speeds of over 140 mph during most hurricane storms.

Updated Wind Loads and Pressures In Miami-Dade and Broward Counties, there is a single wind speed attached to Rick Category IV Buildings and Structures. Those speeds are: 185 miles per hour in Broward County. 195 miles per hour in Miami-Dade County.

Blue water, beaches and relief from personal income taxation are a few reasons that make living in South Florida extra special; another is the High Velocity Hurricane Zone (HVHZ) which is comprised of Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties.

Out of the 67 counties in Florida, only two of them are considered to be in a high velocity hurricane zone and those counties are Broward and Miami-Dade.

HVHZ stands for High Velocity Hurricane Zone. Because of this, it's required that building materials meet certain standards. HVHZs are part of the Florida Building Code. For a building to receive permit approval, the windows must be able to resist strong winds and other hurricane conditions.
