An employee can voluntarily cancel coverage at any time only if the company is not having employee premium contributions deducted pre-tax. If they are, they are de facto enrolled in a Section 125 Plan and cannot change that election until Open Enrollment or a Qualifying Life Event.

Requesting the cancellation of your Aflac policy is a fairly straight-forward process with a few caveats. Individual policyholders can cancel any coverage they have at any time.

Aflac will not pay benefits for an illness, disease, infection, or disorder that is diagnosed or treated by a Physician within the first 30 days after the Effective Date of coverage, unless the resulting Disability begins more than 12 months after the Effective Date of coverage.
