The United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit has jurisdiction over federal appeals arising from the states of Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee.

Tennessee has three federal district courts, which are the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern, Middle, and Western Districts of Tennessee.

Our district has jurisdiction in 41 East Tennessee counties, reaching generally from Bristol on the north to Chattanooga on the south. There are four divisions of the Eastern District of Tennessee, and we have offices in each of those divisions. The Knoxville office serves as the headquarters for the district.

The Southern Division, based in Chattanooga, Tennessee, serves Bledsoe, Bradley, Hamilton, Marion, McMinn, Meigs, Polk, Rhea and Sequatchie counties. The Northeastern Division, based in Greeneville, Tennessee, serves Carter, Cocke, Greene, Hamblen, Hancock, Hawkins, Johnson, Sullivan, Unicoi and Washington counties.

Appeals from the decisions of the Eastern District of Tennessee are heard by the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, which also hears appeals from the other two district courts in Tennessee and those in Kentucky, Michigan, and Ohio.
