As we previously mentioned, a thermostatic mixing valve is a device that regulates the flow of hot and cold water to ensure that the water temperature stays within a specific range. These valves are installed in showers, sinks, faucets, spigots, and other plumbing fixtures.

The general recommendation is to set the water heater between 120–140°F. If you go lower than 120°F, you run the risk of Legionella (a dangerous form of bacteria) growing inside the tank. So if you don't like super-hot water, a thermostatic mixing valve gives you that option without the additional health risk.

Using a mixing valve can also extend the storage capacity & size of the hot water source. Thermostatic mixing valves react very well to changes in temperature, but they can also handle pressure variations (around 10%). They will maintain stable outlet temperatures given large inlet temperature variations.

Thermostatic Mixing Valve Main Purpose. Thermostatic mixing valve is a valve used for maintaining water temperature by blending cold and hot water together in constant flow to ensure safety while washing hands, taking shower and / or bathing.

Transfer valves allow water to flow to multiple outlets. An example is using a handheld shower head, without shutting off the main shower. Some transfer valves allow the use of multiple components at a time.

Thermostatic mixing valve are used in solar systems for the production of domestic hot water. In these systems the temperature of the water in the storage tank can vary considerably depending on the season and the degree of solar radiation, and can reach very high temperatures over long periods.
