The National Diabetes Audit (NDA) is a major national clinical audit, which measures the effectiveness of diabetes healthcare against NICE Clinical Guidelines and NICE Quality Standards, in England and Wales. The NDA is delivered by NHS England, in partnership with Diabetes UK.

Median achievement of the HbA1c treatment target was 27.6% in 2019-20, rising to 30.8% in 2020-21 and to 32.6% in 2021-22. In 2021-22, a third of adults with type 1 diabetes had an HbA1c level of 58 mmol/mol (7.5%) or lower and a fifth had an HbA1c level of 53mmol/mol (7.0%) or lower.

Key Facts. Due to the pandemic restrictions, care process completion reduced markedly in 2020-21 – for example glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) checks reduced from 88% to 80% and Body Mass Index (BMI) measurements from 86% to 67%.

The Core NDA includes data recorded about all people of all ages with diagnosed diabetes in England and Wales before the audit period end date. Included are: people with all types of diabetes mellitus, with the exclusion of gestational diabetes.

To establish a health care cooperative network to conduct public health Surveillance of persons diagnosed with diabetes. To coordinate and promote Intervention methods among persons diagnosed with diabetes and health care providers.

Your NHS diabetes computer record consists of information held in SCI-Diabetes. SCI-Diabetes provides an electronic patient record to support treatment of NHS Scotland patients with diabetes.

The IHS Diabetes Care and Outcomes Audit is a process to assess care and health outcomes for American Indians and Alaska Natives with diagnosed diabetes. IHS, Tribal and Urban Indian health care facilities nationwide participate in this process each year by auditing medical records for their patients with diabetes.
