The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) is the federal K-12 education law of the United States.

Authorized Programs Under ESSA ESSA contains nine titles, the majority of which provide funding to states and school districts. In return for funding, states and school districts must comply with the various requirements of the law.

In some districts, paraeducators only work with students with specific disabilities. In others, paraprofessionals might only work with students with behavioral needs while paraeducators only work with students who have educational needs due to a disability.
