Voluntary Page Charges. Upon acceptance of a manuscript for publication, the author(s) or his/her/their company or institution will be asked to pay a charge of $110 per page to cover part of the cost of publication of the first ten pages that comprise the standard length (two pages, in the case of Correspondences).

The regular paper page length limit is defined at 12 formatted pages for Transactions and four formatted pages for Letters, including references and author biographies. Any pages or fraction thereof exceeding this limit are charged $220 per page. Submission page limits may differ from overlength page limits.

Answer: It's not true that authors have to pay for journal publishing in most cases. Traditional subscription-based journals require the reader to pay for access to the journal; the author does not have to pay any charges for publishing in the journal.

Page charges is a set price per published page incurred by authors, for instance $75 or $150 per page. Page charges are different from APCs in that page charges are paid by the author and mainly exist in traditional subscription journals.

Most journals charge a significant fee to those submitting a paper, sometimes in the thousands of dollars. The paper's author might have to pay these fees, although sometimes his or her university or institution has a subscription fee or otherwise covers the cost of publishing.

Voluntary Page Charge: The cost of publishing and giving the author's work a distribution comparable to that of this Transactions would be far more costly to the employer, or author, than the page charge requested.
