Once you have an account with myEDD, you can view the status of your claim, certify for benefits, and get up to date claim and payment information all on UI Online.

Most claims are processed within 14 days of receipt of a completed claim. You can log in to your account to check the status of your DI claim at any time. Note: For the status of your PFL claim, you must call 1-877-238-4373.

You generally get your first benefit payment within two weeks of filing your claim and you'll get payments every two weeks until your benefit period is over. Most people get their payments through a debit card that you can use to buy things or that you can set to automatically deposit your benefit to a bank account.

Disability Insurance (DI) provides short-term wage replacement benefits to eligible California workers. The most you can receive is 52 weeks of DI benefits, for your own non-work-related illness, injury, or pregnancy. Your disability must also be certified by a physician/practitioner.

Follow these steps to get started: Visit myEDD. Select Create Account and follow the instructions. Then log back into myEDD and select SDI Online to access your SDI Online registration options. Once you are registered in both myEDD and SDI Online, log in to myEDD and select SDI Online to file your claim.

Certify for benefits every two weeks to continue to receive benefit payments. You have an option in how you receive your benefit payments, the EDD issues benefit payments by the EDD Debit CardSM or by check. The EDD Debit Card is the fastest and most secure way to receive your benefits.

If you are eligible, you can receive about 60 to 70 percent (depending on income) of wages earned 5 to 18 months before your claim start date. You can be paid benefits for a maximum of 52 weeks.

You can expect to receive about 40% to 70% of your monthly income until you are able to return to work or until the end of your benefit period — whichever comes first. Benefits typically last three to six months.
